Do you keep yourself and your mind busy from your morning alarm to bedtime daily? Do you ever feel the need to slow down your mind? Can you spare 5 or 10 minutes to slow down your mind and bring yourself back to your center? If so, read on…
Even now, my brain is working overtime reflecting on a hectic week… and I’m on a sabbatical from work. Inspired by some fantastic Podcasts that I’ve been listening to by Tara Brach, I decided to create an assignment that would help me calm my mind down on any given day.
Assignment:
Write a list of 100 words that remind you of your happiest and most fulfilling life chapters. List words that fill your tanks, make you feel calm or make you smile. My version is below in case you need to reference it to get the creative juices flowin’.
Now find a calm place to sit down and relax with your list. Breathe in for three counts and whisper each word as you exhale for three counts. Repeat this pattern for each word. 6 seconds per words times 100 words= calm and centered in 10 minutes. If you only have 5 minutes to spare, do 50 words. Vary this as you see fit.
For me, this assignment resembles the PSA from the 80’s or 90’s in which a stressed out young mother learns to count to 10 instead of doing something drastic. Like the lady in the PSA avoids hitting her child (or worse), you’ll get out of “monkey mind” and back into your version of BEing (Belief Energy) in a flash.
